In recent years, much of South Florida has experienced a dramatic rise in property value followed by an equally striking plummet as our national economy came to a screeching halt.
Based on the state of Florida incorporation date, I predict that property values will buck the national trend and maintain strength. There are some great deals to be found now in South Florida real estate, and there is still potential for solid investment growth.
The climate and weather challenges for 2010 will come from water more than from wind. Although hurricane protection remains critical, it is now even more important that your home be protected from flood and rain damage. Take a careful look at your property and evaluate how you can protect it from torrential rain and high water. The threat from hurricanes will intensify again, however, for the storm season of 2011.

On the political front, I also predict that even more corruption in state and local politics will be unveiled. The laissez faire attitude of government officials which overlooked or endorsed fraudulent activities will be replaced by a grassroots movement of citizens who want to insure that their communities are governed with integrity.

In general, Florida remains popular as a tourist destination, and will be portrayed by the media as a clean and friendly place to visit. 2010 looks to be a prosperous year of stability, growth, and reorganization for the state.

NBA AllStar and Orlando real estate investor Shaquille O'Neal will announce his retirement in early 2010. He needs this time for introspection as well as to heal his body. However, this is not the last we will hear of the O'Neal. The "Real" Shaq has a great body of wisdom to offer to both players and strategists of his game, and is coming to terms with his intellectual talents. Late in 2010, he re-emerges as an extremely successful sports analyst, and he will be even more prominent in the public eye.
Although he may have a media offer from Los Angeles, it will not materialize as promised. Los Angeles is also a terrible location for his health. Shaq will be coming into some real health issues, and even Florida presents challenges. His best location for popularity, getting the right health care that is critical now, and success — is NYC.

Paula Abdul will emerge victorious from her departure with American Idol. She may already be involved in secret negotiations with another entity that will assure her continuing popularity.
Although Paula has the 'spacey' planet Neptune in her first house, she also has a practical Capricorn Moon in a critical core position of her astrological chart. Therefore she is stronger and more grounded than the general public gives her credit for. Paula will find a new opportunity which is even more resonant with her true identity.

Although Britney Spears has a stellium of planets in the optimistic sign of Sagittarius, she is plagued by negative thoughts. She may be brokenhearted over the breakup of her marriage, and might feel empty deep inside.
Unless she learns to practice affirmative self talk, Britney may be headed for more psychological trouble. She will face another breakdown early in the New Year, and is not out of the woods until October of 2010.
On the positive side, Britney is truly a master of her craft. She's an extremely disciplined and hard worker who just needs to feel that she deserves all of the good things that this life has to offer her. Ms. Spears must stay on the straight and narrow!

In keeping with the name of his production company, Dark and Stormy Entertainment, the filming of actor/producer Johnny Depp's movie 'The Rum Diary,' will be fraught with mishap, and Depp will wish he was home in France with his family.
Mr. Depp's Astro-Carto-Graphy map shows that he has the influences of murky Neptune and dangerous Chiron wreaking mishap and deception onto his production location in Puerto Rico. He is additionally challenged by the presence of Mars and Lilith energies running through Los Angeles which reveals that people whom he relies upon are not paying attention to business.
I predict that the 'The Rum Diary' (scheduled for release in 2010) will also incur staggering cost overruns. There will be continued accidents and danger due to lack of preparation and people not living up to their commitments. Depp can pull this out, but he must quickly move as much of the production as possible to France, which is an excellent location for his success.

The economy is first on most peopleís minds. Here in South Florida job shrinkage and property value decline will continue. However, creative entrepreneurs who are willing to take some risks will do very well.
Some businesses will thrive, especially small-group caterers, party-planners and interesting theme restaurants and cafes. As is true throughout the country, it is possible to prosper in these difficult times if we are flexible, creative, hopeful and hard-working.

On the national front, it will be two years before we see real financial recovery. Until then there will be ups and downs. Florida agriculture is likely to have some great seasons in the next couple of years. South Florida will continue to be a favorite destination for vacation and fine living, and this will help us ride out the economic storm.

Speaking of storms, the worldwide trend toward more violent, extreme and unpredictable weather will continue. Devastating tornados are likely to strike in many unusual places throughout the world. 2010 is likely to be a less peaceful hurricane season for South Florida than was 2009.

One the celebrity front, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are likely to announce another pregnancy soon. Keanu Reeves may be facing a health crisis. Whitney Houston is likely to create a relatively successful comeback for herself. Legal difficulties and romantic entanglements will reveal that Miley Cyrus is getting ready to lose her good-girl image.

Toward the end of the year popular music will see an increase of artists who use classical orchestral instruments in new and unusual ways. Lady Gaga will have a public relations crisis, and Tori Amos will find new mainstream popularity. Lindsey Lohan will have further legal issues, but will also have the opportunity to make a successful film comeback.

In politics, President Obama's popularity will continue to waver here in the US. Abroad, he will face many diplomatic crises. Many countries and political factions worldwide will participate in acts of aggression. Hillary Clinton is likely to broker some important treaties, and will be considered successful in her position. However, the most fervent supporters of the President will be disappointed by his decisions to continue to increase our military presence in multiple places worldwide. Potential new hotspots include Somalia and Colombia. Venezuela may have significant problems as well. North Korea will be a potential military adversary in two years. The troop surge in Afghanistan may not be enough, and even more reinforcements may be sent there. We are likely to find a way to avoid a military conflict with Iran. The social unrest in that country may open up some new possibilities for change that US diplomats will help to foster.

For the average person living in or visiting South Florida, 2010 will afford possibilities for cheap travel, discount-rate concert tickets, and other ways to save money having fun. Arts and crafts, fine arts and thrift store chic will quickly become trendy. Partner dancing, crafting parties and theme parties in peopleís homes will be popular. Area businesses will offer free classes and programs to entice patrons, providing many social opportunities. The nesting and cocooning trends of the past decade are officially coming to an end, to be replaced by new trends in social gathering.

Nationwide, the greening of America will continue, with further efforts from automobile makers to create a cleaner, greener car. The world of high fashion will hop on the green bandwagon with new fabrics and with fashions that recycle old clothes into new. Global warming will continue to be an issue, as scientists look for both causes and solutions.

The health care debate will continue to rage, and no solution will be found by the end of 2010. Meanwhile, fears of pandemics will rise, and the panic may become more dangerous than the illnesses themselves!

The great need for scientific advancement coupled with the poor behavior of our performers, athletes and politicians will create a new kind of celebrity — the scientist. As 2010 progresses, smart will be the new sexy!
